Jesus Told Me What Happened

Have you ever really thought about Luke 10:17-19? It reads,

Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

Typically when you read that you get excited about Jesus giving you authority but verse 18 says something far more important. It reads, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven." What Jesus is saying is that He PERSONALLY SAW SATAN HIMSELF fall from heaven. So while others may be impressed with his power, Jesus was not because He knows Satan's not what he's convinced others to believe. Not saying that he doesn't have power or that he doesn't have certain abilities in the heavens. Ephesians 6:12 lets us know that,

'''we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."

But positionally there is a heaven higher than the heavenly places in which he no longer has access to. We know this because Jesus saw him fall from that place. Satan himself speaks about such a place or heaven in Isaiah 14:13, 14 which says,

‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’

Yet he fell from heaven, having never achieved his goal of ascension. Having been witness to his fall, Jesus knew what he was capable of and what he could do. Therefore when he came around in an intimidating or threatening manner, Jesus could be reminded of the fact that he'd fallen. And though he is real and does have power - HE IS NOT ALL POWERFUL. And though Jesus knows that, its important for you and I to remember that as well.

When he comes into our lives trying to intimidate, invoke fear, and show us previews of what he has planned for us, we need to remind ourselves that Jesus told us what happened!

So the next time he comes, tell yourself, and him that '"Jesus told me what happened! He told me you fell!" Whenever you need a little encouragement, wear your tee as a reminder that he's not all he's cracked up to be.
