I just witnessed yet another historic moment. Former President Donald Trump has been indicted of 13 counts of election interference along with 18 other defendants, of whom include John Eastman, the attorney who encouraged him, Sidney Powell, a former federal prosecutor in addition to the former Mayor of New York City, Rudy Guiliani, who championed the RICO Act, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act which is a ‘US federal law that provides for extended criminal penalties and a civil cause action for acts performed as part of an ongoing criminal organization which was enacted by Title IX of the Organized Crime Control Act of 1970.’ [1] And though he and others, of which include the likes of Young Thug and Gunna face similar charges in the same county, this RICO differs in that it is broader and is a state charge.
According to the Washington Post, ‘the indictment contains 41 counts, including many aimed at multiple defendants, for a total of 135 charges against 19 people. Each is charged under Georgia’s racketeering law. The indictment also details their alleged involvement in five schemes related to the 2020 election.’ [2] Of which include:
- ‘One count of violating the state’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, commonly known as RICO.
- Six counts of making false statements and writings, filing false documents, or conspiring to do so.
- Three counts of soliciting the “violation of oath” by a public officer.
- Two counts of conspiring to commit first-degree forgery.
- One count of conspiring to impersonate a public officer.’
To date, the 45th President of the United States is facing 91 felony counts. 91.
While watching Roland Martin Unfiltered, he showed the former Presidents arrival. From aerial views of his Boeing 757 to his massive motorcade which consisted of 10+ big body SUV’s darting down Hwy 85 to more than a dozen motorcycled police escorts, that I realized I was witnessing history. In that moment I realized WHERE this massive motorcade was in route to. They were pulling into the Fulton County Jail. For a moment I thought I was watching yet another presidential motorcade in route to some presidential functional. Only they weren’t. This time they were pulling into THE FULTON COUNTY JAIL. 901 Rice Street NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30318.
The same facility houses over 3000 inmates, ‘nearly half of whom have not been convicted of a crime’ [4] but are there because they cannot afford bail. Again, it wasn’t until I saw him turn into the gate that I realized WHERE he was going. He was turning into a jail. Not to bail out a loved one but to turn himself in.
The same facility where those 3000+ are housed. And as of 6:49pm CST, Thursday, August 24, 2023, per Noah O’Donnell of CBS News, the 45th President of the United States has been booked. The 45th President is in the same facility and is going through the same intake process as those who cannot afford the $200,000 bail his legal team negotiated.
Inside those walls. Inside the high fences. The barbwire. The coldness. The sterileness. The hopelessness that so many feel in that compound, the 45th President of the United States stood. And in less than 20 minutes, he was gone but the legacy of the moment lives on.
My advice to you my dear readers, is to keep your mouth off of this moment because this is no ordinary moment. What we are witnessing is judgment and it is especially important that during times of judgment that we obey the Lord and what He said in Matthew 7: 1 and 2,
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”
Though we have an opportunity to relish in this moment, let us not forget this is one man whom 70+ MILLION AMERICANS voted for. And if you're incarcerated, use this as a moment to sow into your freedom by not critiquing his.
